Marketability of top NFL Draft prospects | CNBC.com

Two of the top prospects in the 2015 NFL Draft find themselves on opposite sides in terms of marketability. Eric Chemi, CNBC Senior Editor-At-Large, Data Journalism, recently looked at what CelebrityDBI Powered by Repucom scores reveal about the public perceptions of quarterbacks Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota.

It’s no secret that Jameis Winston is not the most liked football player in America right now. As reported by CNBC earlier, marketing firmRepucom ranks Winston’s overall appeal at 3,597 among the 3,664 celebrities it tracks. That’s in line with such infamous names like Lance Armstrong and Plaxico Burress.

But if we just broke down the data to compare only NFL players, it’s even clearer—in every single way—that Winston has a major marketing problem.

Contrast that with Marcus Mariota, the University of Oregon quarterback who won the 2014 Heisman Trophy.
